Cottesloe Again [Jan. 1st, 2009|01:38 pm]

[Current Music |Weezer - The Good Life]

Happy new year, everybody! We started the new year off with a trip to the beach.

I don't know if my drawing of it is completely accurate. It was long and thing, like an eel, though i don't think that's what it was? It had "cat whiskers" and a striped pattern. It was brown too.

We've seen it both times we've snorkeled at Cottesloe.

The only thing we've found online that looks kind of right is a "brownbanded bamboo shark," but they shouldn't be living so far south (though they do live on the north coast of Australia, so... maybe?)

EDIT:

Looks like fellow Perth blogger Chai has solved the mystery, I am pretty sure it was this guy:

Which is an Estuary Catfish AKA a cobbler.

Chai's blog is one of my daily reads. Now that Jess and I are very enthusiastic snorkelers, his posts on local marine life are really exciting. I'm always like, "I've seen one of those. Oh wow, I want to see one of those!" etc. In fact he is the one that pointed out Cottesloe as a great snorkel site.

Anyway, thanks for all your help everybody! :D

It looks like it might be some kind of eel or even a sea cucumber?

they can have spots and stuff on them as well.

Similar, but different. I just updated the post with what I think is the correct answer.

Thanks though!

Are you computer lettering? I don't know if I love it.

I am. I don't know yet if I do either. I am mostly doing it now, because one of the projects I am about to work on will be a lot easier with computer lettering...

unusual to get a compliment from me, but despite the computer lettering being a tad sterile, the art's fantastic. Your layouts are always solid, but so often your linework deadens it, this totally breathing an alive. Bravo!

Thank you! I think picking up a brush was the right thing for me to do!

Hey, do you dislike it because it's computer lettering, or because of the particular font?

Would you like it better if it were a more generic computer font?

I just don't like how it's fitting in the balloons there. In the title and date it's fine.

Ah cool. That's just a matter of me not really planning these out properly.

The "real" projects should look better.

Thanks!

I asked Dr Dad, he says there's a few things it could be - try a ling or a hagfish.

Check this out!

Hi Robert,

I wrote a short post about your fantastic marine life comics.
http://chaitt.blogspot.com/2009/01/marine-life-comics.html

Promise that you will keep going with it. You still have another 17 to draw! New year resolution maybe? Also, if nobody asked for it yet, I suggest a cartoon Port Jackson shark with a superhero mask and a harness that he can take off and put on as he likes.

Cheers,
Chai

Re: Check this out!

Haha, maybe I will resurrect the series... But these other projects have to come first...
